Detailed comparison
Acoustic Slat
What it is: Vertical wood slats bonded to a black polyester acoustic felt backing, mounted on an MDF substrate. Real wood veneer with UV-cured matte topcoat.
Acoustic performance: NRC 0.45. Effectively absorbs 45% of mid-to-high frequency reflections. Reduces echo in hard-surface rooms without dampening voice clarity.
Water resistance: Not water-resistant — MDF substrate swells with sustained moisture. Avoid bathrooms, kitchen splashbacks, basements with humidity issues.
Fire rating: Class B / Euro Class E. Suitable for most residential and commercial wall applications. Class A available on special order for code-restricted installs.
Thickness: Standard 0.39" (10mm) or Premium 0.63" (16mm). Premium gives ~15% better absorption and deeper shadow detail.
Install: Screw through felt into studs or bond with construction adhesive. ~1 hour per 4ft × 9ft panel with two people. No specialty tools.
Best for: Home offices, podcast studios, conference rooms, TV walls, restaurants, hospitality lobbies — anywhere echo is a problem and humidity is low.
Starting price: $44.99 per panel (Premium 0.63" / 13.8" × 106.3").
SPC Wall Panel
What it is: Stone-polymer composite (limestone powder + virgin PVC + stabilizers) with a photo-realistic stone, marble, or concrete print layer protected by a high-density wear layer. Flat finish, no slat profile.
Acoustic performance: Minimal — hard surface. Use as an aesthetic and waterproof solution, not for sound treatment.
Water resistance: 100% waterproof. The mineral core is impervious to water, steam, and splash. Tested for submersion. Approved for steam showers (wall area, not floor) and commercial splash zones.
Fire rating: Class A / Euro Class B-s1, d0 — the highest in our catalog. Accepted by most commercial and multi-family fire codes without conditions.
Thickness: 0.16" (4mm) flat panel. Lightweight, easy to handle and cut with a fine-tooth handsaw or jigsaw.
Install: Peel-and-stick adhesive backing or click-lock system. Roughly 30 minutes per panel — the fastest install in our catalog. Works over clean drywall, tile (after primer), or plaster (after seal coat).
Best for: Bathrooms, kitchens, mudrooms, laundry rooms, commercial restrooms, restaurant splash zones, basement feature walls. Also a modern aesthetic option for dry rooms.
Starting price: $59.99 per panel.
Bamboo
What it is: Real bamboo strands compressed into vertical reed-profile boards with a UV-cured natural-finish topcoat. Bamboo regenerates fully in 3-5 years vs 30-60 for hardwood — our most sustainable line.
Acoustic performance: Light absorption from the reed profile (estimated NRC 0.15-0.20, formal testing pending). Adds warmth and texture rather than serving as a primary sound treatment.
Water resistance: Not water-resistant. Bamboo expands roughly 1% with sustained humidity. Avoid bathrooms and persistently humid spaces.
Fire rating: Class C standard. Class B available on special order for code-restricted multi-family or commercial installs.
Thickness: 0.47" (12mm) with vertical reed profile. Substantial feel, premium aesthetic.
Install: Construction adhesive to drywall (flat surfaces only). ~45 minutes per panel. Requires a clean flat substrate — tile and plaster need primer/seal coat first.
Best for: Living rooms, bedrooms, home offices, hospitality lobbies, eco-conscious builds, biophilic design projects. The strongest natural-warmth aesthetic in our catalog.
Starting price: $99.99 per panel.

Decision guide — which panel for which room
Pick Acoustic Slat if: Your room has echo problems — hard floors, large windows, vaulted ceilings, open-plan layout. You want a warm wood look. Humidity is normal (under 60% RH). You're treating a home office, podcast studio, conference room, TV wall, restaurant, or hospitality lobby. Budget: $44-$84 per panel.
Pick SPC if: The wall sees water, steam, or splash — bathroom, kitchen backsplash, mudroom, laundry, commercial restroom, restaurant kitchen wall. You need Class A fire rating. You want a stone, marble, or concrete aesthetic without the weight and grout. You need the fastest possible install (peel-and-stick). Budget: $59 per panel.
Pick Bamboo if: The space is dry — living room, bedroom, home office, biophilic-design hospitality lobby. You want a sustainable material with the strongest natural-warmth aesthetic. You're not relying on the panel for sound treatment. Budget: $99 per panel.

FAQ
Wall panel comparison FAQ
Common questions about choosing between acoustic slat, SPC, and bamboo wall panels.
Which wall panel is best for a bathroom?
SPC Wall Panels. Only SPC is rated for direct water exposure in our catalog. The stone-polymer core is impervious; the wear layer resists steam and cleaning chemicals. Approved for steam shower wall areas. Acoustic slat and bamboo panels will swell or warp in bathroom conditions and should never be installed in wet areas.
Which wall panel has the best fire rating?
SPC Wall Panels — Class A / Euro Class B-s1, d0. This is the highest fire rating we carry and is accepted by most commercial and multi-family fire codes without conditions. Acoustic slat panels are Class B (Class A available on special order). Bamboo is Class C standard (Class B on request). For projects with strict fire code requirements, default to SPC.
Which panel is best for sound treatment in a home office or studio?
Acoustic Slat Wall Panels — NRC 0.45. The slats over felt backing absorb 45% of mid-to-high frequency reflections, reducing echo without killing voice clarity. Premium 0.63" thickness gives roughly 15% better absorption than Standard 0.39". Combine with soft furnishings (rugs, curtains, sofas) for the strongest acoustic treatment. SPC and bamboo are hard surfaces and don't meaningfully absorb sound.
Which panel is the easiest to install for a DIY project?
SPC Wall Panels — peel-and-stick adhesive backing or click-lock system installs in ~30 minutes per panel with basic hand tools. Acoustic slat takes ~1 hour per panel (screw or adhesive). Bamboo takes ~45 minutes per panel (adhesive only). All three can be installed by a competent DIY-er; SPC is the most forgiving on walls with minor imperfections.
Which panel is most sustainable?
Bamboo Wall Panels. Bamboo regenerates fully in 3-5 years versus 30-60 years for hardwood, making it the lowest-carbon natural material we carry. Our bamboo is sourced from responsibly managed groves and finished with UV-cured topcoats (no off-gassing solvents). Acoustic slat uses real wood veneer but on an MDF substrate. SPC is recyclable but PVC-based.
Can I mix different panel types in the same room?
Yes — and many designers do. Common combinations: SPC behind a bathroom vanity + bamboo on the opposite vanity wall (dry zone), or acoustic slat on the TV wall + bamboo on the opposite living room wall for warmth without overdoing sound treatment. Make sure transitions are clean — call our team at +1 (202) 970-3444 for trim and corner-piece recommendations.
What's the price difference between Acoustic Slat, SPC, and Bamboo?
Starting prices per panel: Acoustic Slat $44.99 (Premium 0.63" / 13.8" × 106.3"), SPC $59.99 (any finish), Bamboo $99.99 (any finish). Acoustic Slat scales up to $84.99 for Premium 0.63" / 23.6" × 106.3". Volume discounts available on orders over 50 panels — apply via our trade program.
